The Online Image Gallery of Gregory K. Meyer

This gallery is the place on the web where I can share my images. It is a work-in-progress and only has a few images today, but I'll be posting more, hopefully lots more. If you are here because you were sent a link and have a username and password, please click the login link in the upper right hand corner. I have always felt a little funny using one of the existing services for two reasons. One is that they require the people you share images with also be a member, and not everyone wants to sign up with Picasaweb or Flickr. So I'd like to be able to share images of my children with my mother without forcing her to sign up with a photo sharing service. With Gallery2 on my own web server I can create passwords for albums and images for people I want to share with.

The other reason relates to the many privacy concerns that are a part of Internet life these days. I have a general discomfort with putting lots of information about my children on the web, so I'll be able to have more control over who sees what. Using Picasaweb or Flickr, if I wanted to make things easier to share with my mother, I had to open up my images to people I may not want to share with.

This site is running Gallery2 on Apache/MySQL. I chose Gallery2 over the currently in beta Gallery3 because it is a much more mature product and I can get a more stable system with less tinkering. Gallery3 looks to be an excellent rewrite, but it just doesn't meet my needs yet.
